This is the <\/span>Voice123 dictionary<\/i><\/b>, a living, breathing document updated with words and terms we\u00a0<\/span>avoid using\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>because they are regarded as\u00a0<\/span>hurtful\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>and\u00a0<\/span>insensitive<\/i><\/b>\u00a0by some of our users.

We’ll be looking out for them in project proposals and when they are found, our customer success team will recommend more suitable alternatives. Widely used in the music industry <\/span>for musical genres predominantly created by Black artists<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>Urban<\/i><\/b>\u00a0is rooted in\u00a0<\/span>US sociologist Elijah Anderson<\/a>\u2019s notion of the\u00a0<\/span>iconic ghetto<\/i><\/b>, where the image of the streets, the\u00a0<\/span>hood<\/i><\/b>, or the\u00a0<\/span>endz<\/i><\/b>\u00a0dominates how we see and interpret black communities.\u00a0<\/span>Urban\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>denotes\u00a0<\/span>black<\/i><\/b>\u00a0and thus perpetuates stereotypes by erasing the diversity of both the black experience and the music. Back in the early 20th century, educator and activist Fannie Barrier Williams spoke of a \u201c<\/span>lively discussion \u2026 whether to shed the label Negro in favor of terms like colored or Afro-American. Colored, she wrote, was a \u201cname that is suggestive of progress toward respectful recognition\u201d<\/a>\u00a0(New York Times, 2020).\u00a0Times have changed and\u00a0<\/span>Afro<\/b>\u00a0is a hairstyle, and not a race nor ethnic group. If you’re looking for a\u00a0<\/span>Black voice actor, just say so.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
